This bar cart once had a simple glass shelf (this is an IKEA desk, by the way), and now it has a sophisticated marble one. This is a small makeover, but it makes a big impact. This is another IKEA makeover, and not the last you will see in this post, so be forewarned! Really, though, how chic is this simple table with a marble top? There’s no way anyone would ever guess this came in a flat box! My big love for black and white followed by my big love (read: obsession) with IKEA. I made over my own kitchen chairs to have a little more black and white in my life, and now I am seriously considering a marble top to go with it! This is a great option to add a dash of interest to your tabletop. You may or may not know that I have big love (which can also be called an obsession) with black and white. Nightstands can sometimes be forgotten, left to be boring and neglected, but why not update them slightly with a little marble? I think waking up to a shiny marble surface would put an extra spring in my step in the early morning hours. This IKEA coffee table looks expensive and modern with a touch of marble on top. Contact paper allows for a cost effective and beautiful option. This is by far my favorite kind of contact paper, because marble is so hot right now and is always a chic option – but it can be expensive. Contact paper is actually amazing! Marble Contact Paper And my whole outlook on contact paper has been forever changed! Did you know that you can make over furniture with this stuff, and it actually looks great? If you don’t believe me, be prepared to be amazed, just like I was. Now it’s on to a few other areas in my craft room that also need some thrifty prettification, and some pretty organization.Do you remember that sticky paper your mom (or grandma) used to put on the insides of drawers, or sometimes to cover up some not-so-nice shelving in a pantry or basement storage? I can tell you this: every shelf in my home was covered in contact paper when we moved in, and I was not happy about it! Then something magical happened. That’s definitely thrifty enough for this thrifty girl.Īnd I have a lot of the contact paper and wallpaper left to replace any damage that might happen in the future. I had the roll of double sided tape, cup hooks, and curtain rod in my stash from ages ago, but if you wanted to add in that cost it would probably be about $10, for a grand total of $40. So we’re talking about $30 total, if you count the piece of the $1 thrifted sheet that I used for the skirt. In Canadian funds the wallpaper was $41 and I used about half the contact paper was $27 and I used about a third. I love it when you can create such a big transformation in so little time, and this project was pretty thrifty too. I did it over two afternoons, and it took about five hours altogether. If I didn’t have to paint the desk first I easily could have done this makeover in one afternoon. This is a thicker sheet so I didn’t feel the need to hem the bottom or the sides that are on the outside of the skirt. I simply cut it to length, and then cut that in half, and hung it with the hemmed sides meeting in the middle. This sheet was perfect for this project because the top hem was open so I didn’t have to do any sewing. I’m a gal who loves contrast, so I love the look of the funky floral fabric with the faux wood contact paper. Now I have a great place to take small project photos, as well as pics for my etsy shop items. And here’s the after of my farmhouse meets funky craft desk makeover.
